Stone mason in Thorame-Haute (04170)
Thorame-Haute is our neighbour over the top: you climb there from Méailles by the D908 and the Colle-Saint-Michel pass. The commune straddles two worlds — the limestone basin of the upper Verdon on one side, Annot sandstone country on the other. Peyresq is part of it.

The local fabric
Two families of stone in one commune. At the main village and in the basin it is Cretaceous limestone from the slope screes and material brought down by the Verdon: raw, barely squared rubble, irregular courses, thick joints — mountain valley masonry. On the Vaïre side, at Peyresq and La Colle-Saint-Michel, you find Annot sandstone again, the one that dresses well and serves for surrounds, quoins and lintels, exactly as at home.
The houses are massive: a vaulted sheepfold on the ground floor, living quarters above, a hay loft under the roof. Original roofs come from two overlaid traditions — scale-laid flat tile in the lower village, larch shingle as soon as you climb. Sheet metal has replaced both almost everywhere over sixty years. Two listed monuments create surrounds here: the Pont du Moulin, a humpbacked mule bridge built at the end of the seventeenth century, and the church at Peyresq.
What we do there
- Restoration of massive village houses, in limestone as in sandstone.
- Repointing and façade repair in lime mortar.
- Retaining walls, field clearance walls and dry stone.
- Structural masonry, roofs and timber frames at altitude.
